Enjoy an hour of storytelling of local architect Laurie Gunzelman, AIA! Presented by Diversity by Design.

Laurie Gunzelman, AIA, is a working principal of GUNZELMAN architecture + interiors. Laurie’s design sensibility was established early with an education in Fine Arts. After living in England for three years and touring Europe, she became absorbed with the beauty and value of architecture. Laurie earned her architecture MArch degree from the Ohio State University in 2002 and was awarded the AIA Medal of Merit certificate.

After working in the industry for a period of time, Laurie formed her own practice.  Working as a sole practitioner, Laurie developed a design and business acumen that would allow her to grow the practice into a small studio.

GAI is a proponent of simplistic design.   Design should be elegantly simple and be the canvas from which everything is tied.  The architecture should seamlessly blend from its external organization through to its interior skin. The use of materials in their purest form has been a fundamental element in each design approach.  The GAI team that resides at GAI’s newly renovated building continues to develop the principles of architecture which enhance the built environment.

Laurie believes in a live work balance which includes giving back to the profession by serving on the AIA Board of Directors and participating on various committees.  She remains active and continues to compete in rowing and strength training competitions.  Laurie lives and works downtown with her Grate Dane Canon, who is a now an office favorite with clients.
