POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing architectural work activities and projects requiring the application of architectural knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. Candidate will also be responsible for bid documents and project supervision through completion of the assigned projects and tasks. Ability to program, design and execute facility construction projects, exhibits a high level of proficiency and advanced knowledge of designs that enables the architect to serve as a resource for the company in that area.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1) Possesses the knowledge to make some technical decisions based on calculated risks with little management review; provides support to supervisor or manager to assist in making decisions affecting long range plans and goals based on analysis of input and outcomes.
2) Identifies, resolves, and initiates solutions to problems that are typical to the organizational unit and requires knowledge of facility design and/or problem solving techniques.
3) Leads in the preparation and presentation of the most designs, clearly, concisely, and persuasively, bringing in ancillary issues before senior management, professional organizations, etc.
4) Builds teams and networks that extend through AEP, and other companies, professional organizations, regulatory agencies, and academia.
5) Leads, facilitates and coordinates work activities of assigned projects within work group, team, department, corporate entity and assumes the role of project or function manager for assigned tasks.
6) Develops, recommends, and implements plans to address project issues within field of design expertise.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Architect (grade 6)
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering in a program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in Architecture.
Required License(s)/Certification(s)
NCARB Certification in any U.S. state is required for this position or ability to gain NCARB certification.
Architect Senior (grade 8)
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering in a program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as an Architect.
Required License(s)/Certification(s)
NCARB Certification in any U.S. state is required for this position.
Additional Information
1) Incumbent is accountable for making sound recommendations and decisions that have an impact across organizational boundaries.
2) Depending upon assignment, position may entail some travel and exposure to situations which require the knowledge, understanding and adherence to applicable safety procedures.
3) Master’s degree in Architecture preferred.
4) May require extended hours to accomplish assigned tasks to meet requirements and schedules.
5) Proficient in the use of MircoStation or AutoCAD.
