AIA Ohio 2021 Honor Awards

Congratulations to Ruth Gless, FAIA, on being awarded the AIA Ohio 2021 Gold Medal Honor Award. The Gold Medal is the highest honor AIA Ohio can bestow on a member. The award recognizes exemplary contributions and significant accomplishments of AIA Ohio members in the categories of Design, Leadership, and Service.

An award-winning designer with forty years’ experience, Ruth Gless, FAIA spent the early part of her career as an artist, a classroom teacher, and member of two internationally recognized architectural firms. She was twenty years the managing principal of Lincoln Street Studio in Columbus OH. She has served AIA Columbus as a Board Member, as President, and as delegate to the Board of AIA Ohio. She was elevated to Fellow in 2016, and  currently serves as Chair of AIA Columbus Fellows Committee. She was awarded the AIA Ohio Mentor Award in 2019.  As an architect and a painter, she celebrates urban space, because she believes that even the smallest village, rural location, or ruin can be urban.

 

Congratulations to Chris Meyers, AIA, on being awarded the AIA Ohio 2021 Mentor Award. The Mentor Award recognizes a member who has demonstrated strong leadership, guidance, and service in the support of mentorship to fellow professionals. This award recognizes the exemplary contributions and significant accomplishments an individual has made to the profession via mentorship.

Christopher Meyers is the Principal Architect and founding owner of Meyers + Associates Architecture. Chris has based his architectural practice on a focused approach to client service. He provides excellence in attention to detail, responsive services, and thoroughness of project reviews. Being an active member of the community, he seeks opportunities to design buildings that bring about positive development of the community and have a delicate impact on our environment. Chris has received numerous awards for design, business, and community service.

 

Congratulations to Matthew Teismann, AIA, on being awarded the AIA Ohio 2021 Emerging Professionals Award. The Emerging Professionals Award identifies and promotes exceptional accomplishments of Associate Members and Young Architect members and their continuing development within the profession. The award recognizes exemplary achievements and future promise of AIA Ohio members in the categories of Design, Leadership in Practice, Leadership in Education, and Service.

Matthew Teismann is a registered architect with over 10 years of practice experience whose research focuses on history and philosophy of design, in particular spatial ontology. Teismann attended Kansas State University and Harvard University Graduate School of Design, and has previously taught design studios and history and theory at Kent State University (KSU), University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He has published on topics such as the space of globalism, geopolitical spatial encounters, and counterculture architecture.

Teismann has studied, exhibited, practiced, and lectured in the US and Europe. Prior to joining MKC Architects he co-founded LIONarchitecture, an architecture firm that explores and underscores architecture’s existential role with humanity. Teismann joined MKC in 2016 as Director of Design and has since become Principal and Director of Architecture, serving as Principal-in-charge on numerous projects of varying scale and type, including K-12 / higher education / institutional / housing. Teismann currently serves on the Board of Directors for AIA Columbus.
