Meet AIA Columbus' Architecture Awards jury from Philadelphia through a series of lectures by the jury members!
In this mini session we will meet jury member Fátima Olivieri-Martínez. Fátima is a Principal at KieranTimberlake, an award-winning architecture firm recognized for its environmental ethos, research expertise, and innovative design. In nearly a decade at KieranTimberlake, Fátima has been involved with projects including the award-winning renovation of the historic Dunster House at Harvard University. She currently manages design and construction for the major public spaces and a 350-seat proscenium theater in a large mixed-use building for New York University. Fátima has been an influential mentor to new hires at the firm and as an educator at Temple University and elsewhere. Fátima helped formalize KTCI, the firm's Community Involvement group that offers pro bono design services. She also spearheaded a collaboration to create a graduate-level design studio focused on designing a visionary school in Puerto Rico, where she is from, to build resiliency following the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Fátima received the 2019 Young Architect Award from AIA Philadelphia, which recognizes a registered architect between the ages of 25 and 39 for remarkable contributions in leadership, practice, and service.

In this mini session we will meet jury member Karen Blanchard, AIA. Karen is a Principal at SITIO architecture + urbanism where she is focused on delivering design excellence to multifaceted projects. Her vast experience ranges in scale and typology – she is fully engrossed as an architect on civic and cultural, residential, educational and mixed-use projects. Karen’s commitment to design and the profession has resulted in numerous project design awards as well as being presented the AIA Philadelphia Young Architect award. Karen was the 2018 President of AIA Philadelphia, served 6 years as the Co-Chair of the AIA Philadelphia Women In Architecture Committee, and spent 5 years on the AIA Philadelphia Board of Directors and their Executive Committee. In addition, she serves her community on the Board of Directors with the Fairmount Community Development Corporation. As a graduate from Thomas Jefferson University, Karen has stayed connected with the University as an adjunct faculty member and through the College of Architecture and the Built Environment Advancement Council as well as their Lab for Urban and Social Innovation Board.

In this mini session we will meet jury member Jules Dingle, FAIA. Jules Dingle is a Principal and founding partner at DIGSAU, a Philadelphia-based studio with a broad view of architecture, how it is made, and who makes it. The firms work ranges from art installations to large institutional buildings. DIGSAU’s philosophy of practice is guided by a commitment to design excellence, experimentation, attentiveness to the needs of their clients, and a deep connection to material culture of the places where they work. Their approach builds enthusiasm in others for the creation of meaningful places that empower people to be more inspired, productive, and fulfilled. In a built environment where authenticity is increasingly scarce, their work focuses on Architecture’s capacity to communicate via its materials and explores innovative ways that the craft of building can connect people to the experience of place, history, and time. Founded in 2007, the office operates as an open studio, with a staff of thirty-five individuals from diverse backgrounds. Since its inception, the firm has been recognized with over fifty state and local AIA awards and in 2013 was named one of North America’s “Emerging Voices” by the Architectural League of New York. A tireless and imaginative designer, Jules brings a unique combination of skill and passion to everything he does. His work balances an interest in emerging technologies with a fondness for the expressive potency of chance, improvisation, and low-tech solutions that celebrate the act of making. He has taught design studios at Temple University, Drexel University, and the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Design, and has served as a guest critic and lecturer at numerous design schools. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters of Architecture from University of California Berkeley. Jules has served on the AIA Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Boards of Directors. Jules was recognized with the Philadelphia Young Architect Award in 2012 and AIA Fellowship in 2018.

In this mini session we will meet jury member Eric Oskey, AIA. Eric Oskey is a partner and Technical Director of the award-winning firm Moto Designshop (Moto) which is recognized for well-considered and crafted projects. Eric brings into being Moto’s creative vision through the sophisticated application of assemblies, material science, building systems, and construction knowledge. His understanding and use of digital production tools, creates a valuable reciprocation between digital technology and building technique. His substantial previous experience, which includes working at the Pritzker Prize winning office of Venturi Scott Brown, allows him to efficiently lead large-scale and institutional projects, while navigating their intricate dynamics. His studied approach to design is driven by an enthusiastic engagement of the making process and the descriptive tools used to reveal solutions. Moto has won numerous awards and competitions such as the American Institute of Architect (AIA) Philadelphia’s Emerging Architects Prize; the 2018 AIA Philadelphia Devine Detail Prize for the Walnut Estates Brick Screen; the 2018 AIA Pennsylvania Bronze Medal for the Walnut Estates and most recently the 2019 AIA Philadelphia Silver Medal for Arrupe Hall at Saint Joseph’s University, a Jesuit Priests Residence. Additionally, in 2018 he was individually awarded a prize as a Minority Business Leader by the Philadelphia Business Journal and in 2019 the Outstanding Asian American Business by the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia. Eric maintains his connection to academics as an Associate Professor of Practice in the Architecture Department at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Drexel University and a Master of Architecture from Cornell University.
