Tour Series: Louis Sullivan Jewel Box Bank

Register.

Join us for an exclusive architectural tour of the nearly completed renovation of the historic Home Building Association Bank, located at 1 North Third Street in Newark, Ohio. Designed by legendary Chicago architect Louis Sullivan, this jewel is one of only eight “jewel box” banks he created—a true icon of American architecture.

Built in 1914 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, the bank’s storied history includes a diverse array of occupants, from financial institutions to a butcher shop, jewelry store, and even an ice cream parlor. Each left its mark on the building’s interior, and now, a meticulous multi-stage restoration by the Licking County Foundation is bringing Sullivan’s vision back to life.

Explore the recently restored facades, marvel at the intricate details of Sullivan’s design, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the final stages of the interior rehabilitation. Learn about the building’s transformation into the future home of Explore Licking County, the county’s convention and visitor’s bureau, and discover how this historic treasure will continue to serve the community in its next chapter.

This is a rare opportunity to witness history and architecture seamlessly blending into the present—don’t miss it!

Rogers Krajnak Architects is doing the renovation.
