This program addresses the learning required for architects in their professional practice and project management, when designing through construction administration to well past substantial completion of a project. The basis of the presentation centers around the typical AIA documents of the 2017 “01” Family:
- B101 Standard Form of Agreement Between Owner & Architect
- A201 General Conditions of the Contract for Construction
- C401 Standard Form of Agreement Between Architect & Consultant
- A101 Standard Form of Agreement Between Owner & Contractor
An understanding of these typical documents is fundamental for the “roadmap” of the architectural profession and project management. These documents establish the legal relationships between an architect, its client, consultants and construction contractors that impact the health, safety and welfare of the public. These model documents will identify which terms and conditions in these four documents are most critical to a successful project, and those that are typically modified by an architect’s client or their client’s legal counsel. Lastly, the program will analyze how other professional associations’ standard documents either align with an architect’s professional interests and the public, or others that are contrary to the professional interests of an architect and the public.
