In Memoriam: Laura Shinn, AIA, AICP

Laura Shinn’s memorial will be held via Zoom on Saturday, September 18 from 2-3 pm EST.  Those wishing to attend the Zoom memorial can RSVP here to receive details and the link for the service.

Laura Shinn, AIA, AICP was killed on her bike on July 20 on her way to work in San Diego. A car veered into her dedicated bike lane. As many of you know, Laura was staunchly committed to cycling as an environmentally responsible means of transportation.

For more than 20 years, Laura advanced design in Columbus. She served on the German Village Commission, was a Planner and Adjunct Professor at The Ohio State University, an Associate Director at the Neighborhood Design Center, and was active in AIA Columbus serving on the Board of Directors.

In partnership with her husband, Steve Shinn, FAIA, they improved design in Columbus and continued to do so in San Diego. Laura was serving as President of AIA San Diego. It is a terrible loss for both communities.

Laura approached life and everything she did with positivity and enthusiasm. She will be remembered as bright, vivacious, ambitious, tenacious, personable, and kind.
Our condolences go out to Laura’s husband, Steve, and their family and friends.  We will update this page with more information about services when available.
