2013 marks the 100th anniversary of AIA Columbus. With a rich architectural history behind us, how do local firms address Columbus’ historic architecture? While some firms choose to model new builds after historical precedents, others might choose to make reference to the past, or ignore it completely. Four firms, all local to Columbus, of various size, scale and scope, will present their methods for addressing this issue, whether it is through materiality, structure, programming or architectural style. Each firm will present case studies on how they addressed some of the issues posed by historical architecture, whether they are renovation, preservation, additions or new construction. Following each firm’s individual presentation, the four firms will participate in a moderated panel discussion.
