Last week, Executive Director Gwen Berlekamp, AIA Columbus President Sandy Bresler, and AIA Columbus President-Elect John Kelleher attended the 2012 AIA Grassroots Leadership and Legislative Conference in Washington, DC. This year’s theme – LEADERSHIP ADVOCACY COMMUNICATION – as described by Mickey Jacob, FAIA, First Vice President and 2012 Grassroots Chair, “was designed to advance our skills to increase the public awareness of the value of architecture and the important role we play as architects as stewards of the built environment.”

Join AIA Columbus and the Emerging Professionals Committee as they lead a tour through the new Medical Center Chiller Plant at the Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center. The project, by Ross Barney Architects with Champlin Architecture of Cincinnati as Architect of Record, provides environmental HVAC services for the Medical Center and Ohio State research facilities, and anticipates LEED certification. Led by Al Stazzone, OSU Project Manager for the project, the tour will include a study of the systems encased within the panelized skin, a walkthrough of the interior, and a discussion of the exterior, including its newly installed external fins.

March Chapter Meeting: East Franklinton
Join David Dixon of Goody Clancy and Vincent Papsidero of the City of Columbus as they present about the East Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. This neighborhood, marked by vacant lots, empty warehouses, and great hot dogs, is on its way to joining other revitilized neighborhoods as a proud symbol of Columbus’ emergence as a vibrant urban center. Franklinton’s revival will celebrate its diversity of people, activities, building and public spaces. Highlights regarding implementation steps in this neighborhood’s resurgance will conclude the presentation.
