Position: Architect

Compensation: $65,000 – 73,000 per year

Schedule: Full time, 40 hours/week

Location: Ohio History Center, Columbus, OH

 

Summary:

Under supervision of architecture services manager and chief architect, this position is responsible for architectural planning and design, and the production of contract documents and construction administration for the repair, renovation and restoration of historic structures at historic sites.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Develops preliminary design documents and proposals; complete sets of construction documents, including construction drawings, and specifications; and cost estimates for new construction and historic preservation projects.
  • Responsible for plan exam submission, bidding and contract administration including processing shop drawings, construction observation, job cost accounting and job status reports.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with architectural, engineering, consultants and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with contractors

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Degree in architecture from an accredited school of architecture or equivalent work experience.
  • Five – eight years’ minimum experience in the practice of architecture.
  • Must be a registered architect in the state of Ohio.
  • Hold a valid Ohio driver’s license and be able to travel extensively throughout the state of Ohio.

 

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with public bidding process.
  • Experience in the application of historic preservation standards in constructed projects.
  • At least one year of graduate level study in architectural preservation, American architectural history, or preservation planning or at least two years’ experience on historic preservation projects is preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret a variety of professional documents. Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word Teams, Sharepoint, OneDrive, and PowerPoint), and experience with the internet.
  • Knowledge and ability to develop architectural specifications and bidding documents.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and procedures. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Knowledge of building codes, ADA standards, and building structures and systems.
  • Possess technical proficiency in the production of construction documents.
  • Ability to define problems; collect data; establish facts; draw conclusions and prepare meaningful reports.
  • Ability to be part of a team as well as being responsible to self-manage and self-motivate.
