On March 29, members of AIA Columbus participated in the AIA Ohio Advocacy Day at the Statehouse. Architects met with Central Ohio members of the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate, advocating for expanding affordable housing opportunities, sustainability and resilience, sensible building codes, and expanding the Ohio historic tax credits. The architects also pledged to be a resource to the legislature. At the meetings we talked about SB 9 which was signed into law recently. It requires each agency to reduce administrative rules by 10% annually for three years. This includes the building code and fire code. We asked that these codes be exempted to protect the health, safety, and welfare of occupants.
