CBUS Design Week 2012

In the fall of 2012, the Center for Architecture and Design (The Center), in collaboration with the Columbus Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Columbus), will promote and celebrate local design during its inaugural Design Week. Design Week 2012 is a festival about design and about all the ways that design appears in our lives. It will consist of a series of programs meant to educate and inspire, reveling in the unique role that design plays in Columbus. Design Week is part of idUS, the fall signature event for 200Columbus focused on the future of Columbus. Design Week’s mission is three-part: to foster an appreciation for the power of creative “design thinking”, to elevate expectations for what good design is, and to raise awareness of the importance of design industries to our local economy.

Design Week will kick-off on Saturday, September 29, with the Ideabook Opening Reception at the OSU Urban Arts Space. This will showcase the Ideabooks that were made by Igloo letterpress and distributed earlier in the year. Reservations are requested for this event. A series of events will follow the rest of the week. Sunday September 30, will feature both design:ROLLS – Architectural Bike Tour of Columbus, and the CBUS Film Screening. Tuesday, October 2 will present a panel discussion from Susan Szenasy of Metropolis Magazine to be held at NBBJ. Wednesday, October 3 will highlight some of the best recent design in Columbus with the AIA Columbus Design Awards Reception. This event, in conjunction with KSA, the Wexner Center for the Arts and AIA Columbus will include a lecture by Julie Snow, FAIA, and a ticketed awards ceremony. Get your tickets now! The week will end with a bang with the Annual Center for Architecture Celebration with a vintage carnival theme. Tickets are available now, so don’t wait!
